What's going on : Art exchange EVENTS

Initiated by a young artist's union named N.A.U.T.E., opportunities for Art exchanges between artists of different European countries and various socio-cultural backgrounds will take place this year 2008 in Greece, in Crete (MAY 20 – 30 ), and in France, in Alsace (NOVEMBER 26– DECEMBER 15).

Established and emerging artists, exhibiting and broadcasting locally and internationally, offer to the public their interest and sensitive opinions in subjects closely related to the evolution of society and cultures.

In its effort to reach a wider audience within the community, the Artist's group N.A.U.T.E. proposes a Visual Art Exhibition and other cultural happenings and visits, which will be attended by visiting groups and by the local schools. N.A.U.T.E. thus hopes to engage all viewers, including students, in the debate.

This « rendez-vous » to visit an eclectic collection of art, stamped with each artist's heritage and personality, is organized from November 26th to December 15th with the support of the Organization Alsace-Crete. It proposes, in the Alsace region in France, the second milestone of the NAUTE show following its success in Greece, in Heraklion on the island of Crete, in November 2006.

The multimedia Exhibition ¨Roots¨ 2008, for which Artists were asked to explore the idea of collective memory, will be hosted during Christmas time at the Hôtel du Département, in the European Capital of Strasbourg. Special days for lectures, concerts, tasting of local products and art performances are scheduled and will be hosted also in Truchersheim, a village close to Strasbourg. The panel of Exhibitors, musicians, performers and lecturers are natives from Crete as well as of various nationalities, however most of them are established in Crete; some also come from Alsace Lorraine, Ile de France and Bretagne, in France. These participants will be met via their Art, both for cultural purposes and for pleasure, as a part of the panel of events happening in the East of France at that time of the Year.

N.A.U.T.E

The organization is known as «New Artists' Union Traveling through Europe» - Naute .

N.A.U.T.E. is a non-profit organization founded in 2005 with one base in Crete and another in Strasbourg, «Naute». The main mission of Naute is cultural and artistic; Naute aims to promote a number of art forms and regional artists and to encourage cultural exchanges particularly between Greece and France. To bring its projects to life, Naute works closely with Marie Deparis, a French art-critic and the Artists Francis Willm (France), or Manos Pontikakis (Greece). However hardly anything could be done without the participation of the organization's other enthusiastic members.

·        Anyone involved with ARTS can become part of NAUTE's venture, and demonstrate that art, more than a mere craft, can bring different cultures and voices together under one same umbrella.

·        N.A.U.T.E.'s longer term aim, but at the same time immediate priority, is to gain its own space and foundational standard in Crete.  Thus artists living in Crete, or attracted by the island, will be welcome to show their work, as well as to take part in festivals, workshops and conferences organized around art topics.

·        Supporters and contributors are gladly welcome to further the efforts in touching a wider audience and in birthing wider interest, in challenging the artists and in creating even more Art happenings.
